To all

Radio Operators:

Another BUSY COMMUNICATONS EVENT
At least this year the storms didn't show up until 3PM

Hard Rock Start / Finish

TARA Comm van in action - 2023

This year AMBBR started off with a "Bang" resulting in a number of medical emergencies in the early moning.
Of course the ham crew handled the information transfer to the comm van with efficent and as precise information as possible.

Vikingsholm

Michael, WM6K and Mary K6MPW
endured the early morning cold and initial onslaught of riders.
Braving the elements, they ensured the rider's needs were communicated back to the Hard Rock command center.
They did have a great view!.

Tahoe City

Emerson, KN6BNW manning the communication center                     Wide angle view of TC in Action !

A New Crew this year continued the traffic exchange including some ambulance traffic

for medical issues on the course.

Scott, KM6SSK and Emerson, KN6BNW
took the initial onslaught and kept the Hard Rock well informed of the developing circumstances with riders needing help.

It's obvious at 17 that Emerson had an excellent instructor for providing precise radio traffic during the ride.
They stayed on site until the last riders returned from the Truckee leg of the ride.

TRUCKEE

And once again Brian, KN6SVZ and his son Dylan, KN6SDO,
providing excellent communication support from Truckee!
At 13 years of age, Dylan's expertise with passing radio traffic is second to none !
This included providing an amazing signal back to the 24 repeater from a very difficult RF location.

Kings Beach

Thsi year
Ed, KG7ZOP
provided his usual expertise along with some trainning for new operators!

Jordan, KN6UAT and YL Melissa with a nice setup to help with Kings Beach

Incline / Lakeshore Blvd

Phil, KJ7UNP
again provided communication from the Incline area
in a location that has been a major traffic issue in years past.
This has become a vital observation point for rider flow
AND
for first hand information from those riders regarding course issues.
(Hey Phil, we need a picture !)

Half Spooner

Team in Training Helmet ID                    Tom, KE7NCJ & Art, AB7FB

Tom, KE7NCJ along with Cathy, AC7CE and Art, AB7FB,
handled the later hours of the ride with excellent communication skills.

Indeed, Cathy and Art handled the hetic and tired rider traffic with professional calm
while Tom was keeping an eye on rider flow.
My suspicion is he was watching the riders (girls) go by and probably doing a very good job of it!

Spooner Summit

The final rest stop was manned by our experienced team of
Matt, W7KJU and Dave, KJ7WT.
This location requires dedication and patience as the riders begin to slow down
but still need the full attention of the radio operators to insure their safe passage
to the "down hill" side of the last leg!
This site also provides radio signal challenges due to propagation back to the 24 repeater.
Add that to the intense grouping of tired riders asking for a SAG back to Hard Rock
and you have a real test of radio operator proficiency and professional attitude to insure
that last leg of the ride remains a safe and enjoyable event for ALL involved.

SPECIAL OPERATOR STATIONS

Team in Training Tent

Additionally at the Hard Rock was
Mike, KM6UWG
Mike is our TBARES EC and took the daunting job of manning the "TinT" tent
to provide the crucial link of LLS traffic to the TARA communication Van.

This helps keep the teams from the individual Leukemia & Lymphoma socity
synconized with the TARA comm van center.

Mike endured beyond the call of duty staying the course through late
site setup ( not his fault) and the music speakers very close to the
tent resulting in too loud audio to even hear radio traffic with his HT held to his ear!
Thanks Mike
(and he didn't complain the whole time!)

SAG Radio Operator

This year required a ride along ham radio operator and
Tony, KB7NV
took the assignment with all the required equipment and
communication knowledge to provide superior information
from the SAG vehicle and "eyes on" course observation.

Finally, a note fron Stephanie Carlson

Thank you for all that you did to make it possible for TARA to be onsite for Sunday’s ride.
We could not have done this ride without your team.

The incidents that we did have were not as severe as they could have been because of you and your team.
Our riders were able to get picked up quickly because of you as well.

"The TARA team is the best that I have ever worked with for an event."

Stephanie Carlson
Senior Executive Director at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
